Course Overview:

On this course, you’ll learn about international best practice and the principles of producing, line producing and production management, where planning is king, and the devil is in the detail.

You will learn how to produce for specific market outcomes, and gain an understanding of risks involved in TV and film production, how to work with budgets and schedules and how to ensure the production lines up with creative and technical expectations as well as investment and spend. A producer works closely with a director and production staff, and so you’ll also come to gain some experience of what it’s like to lead a disciplined team.

If you like to problem-solve, organise people and resources, are interested in what it takes to bring a film or TV project to fruition, and how to align the planning and budget to the creative vision, then this is the course for you.

This will kickstart your career, whether you want to become a TV or film producer, or if you want to work in the marketing and distribution side of the business.

A minimum of a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) from a recognized higher educational establishment is required, but a degree from a reputable university is desirable.

Born in Heidelberg, Germany, Abbesi Akhamie is a Nigerian-American filmmaker with a specialization in producing films that illuminate African and diaspora experiences and histories. An alumna of the esteemed Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, she holds an MFA in Film and has significant experience in teaching filmmaking and grant writing. Abbesi's productions in West and East Africa, have gained international recognition, premiering at prestigious festivals such as the Rotterdam, Venice Biennale and the Toronto International Film Festival. A Berlinale Talent producing alumna, she was also an artist-in-residence at Black Rock Senegal, an initiative by the celebrated artist Kehinde Wiley. In addition to her film projects, Abbesi is an avid writer for her Substack publications, the Afropolitan Yellow Pages and the Filmmaker Soft Life.
